40th IEEE International Parallel and Distributed Processing Symposium
May 25-29, 2026
IPDPS 2026 invites two types of workshop proposals: renewal proposals and new workshop proposals.
Important Dates:
- Renewal Workshop Proposals: September 11, 2025, 11:59 PM AoE
- New Workshop Proposals: September 18, 2025, 11:59 PM AoE
- Notification: September 30, 2025
(An extension to the above deadlines is NOT expected.)
ABOUT IPDPS WORKSHOPS
Held on two consecutive days of the five-day conference, IPDPS workshops provide an extended forum that allows the IPDPS community an opportunity to fully explore special topics and to present work that is more preliminary and cutting-edge or that has more practical content than the more mature research presented in the main symposium. Each workshop has its own requirements and submission schedule. Workshop paper submission dates typically fall after the notification date for the main symposium papers. Proceedings of the workshops are distributed at the conference and are submitted for inclusion in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library after the conference.
IPDPS 2026 and all associated events, including workshops, are scheduled to be held in person between the dates of May 25-29, 2026, in New Orleans, USA. For IPDPS 2026, we are holding all workshops during the first two days of the conference, i.e., on May 25th and May 26th, 2026. Organizers should mention their preference in holding their workshops on either of the two days, or both days, depending on the length of the workshop program. The final determination of the workshop day for accepted workshops will be made by the chairs. Any preferences mentioned by the organizers will be duly considered alongside the timing of other planned co-located events, such as industry forums, tutorials, panels, birds-of-a-feather sessions, and other thematically related workshops. The idea is to honor organizers’ preferences, whenever possible, while considering maximizing options for workshop attendees.

IPDPS 2026 CALL FOR PROPOSALS FOR NEW WORKSHOPS
IPDPS 2026 invites new workshop proposals on all emerging topics relating to HPC, parallel and distributed computing, and their intersection with domain sciences. In particular, we invite new proposal submissions in areas such as HPC for large language models and foundational models, AI/ML in parallel and distributed computing, quantum computing, neuromorphic computing, energy-efficient HPC, cybersecurity, digital twins, and related areas. This expands the scope of IPDPS workshops from prior years significantly. All proposals should assume that the workshop will be conducted as part of the in-person conference. Proposals should emphasize the relevance of the proposed workshop to the IPDPS community, and they should demonstrate the steps to be taken to ensure the technical quality of the submissions and peer-review process. Selection of new workshop proposals will be based on several factors, including (but not limited to): importance of the proposed area, qualifications of the organizational team, commitment to diversity (geographical, organizational), potential to diversify attendees, and plans for publicity and outreach. You may contact the Workshops Chairs before preparing a proposal to discuss your intent to submit and to get any suggestions for improving the proposal.
New workshop proposals should consist of the following sections.
Description: Provide a brief description of the workshop, its scope, and topics; the list of organizers with the confirmed chair(s); the program committee members (indicate whether the members have been confirmed); and the important dates. A URL to the main page of the tentative workshop must be included. A workshop proposal where no website containing the main information has been set up will be rejected.
Organizers: Provide a short vita of the organizers by listing the current affiliation, position, and highlighting any prior relevant experience in organizing other events, including workshops/conferences/panels at IPDPS or other similar venues. Provide contact information (name and email) of at most three people IPDPS should use as the point of contact for workshop organization.
History: If re-running (earlier editions were held somewhere other than IPDPS), provide general information by listing the name of the workshop, the hosting conference, year, number of papers submitted, number of papers accepted, number of attendees; if there were posters/panels, their numbers and topics (for panels), and URLs of the existing web pages.
Targeted papers and audience: Provide information on targeted papers and audience: (i) Where are the papers from (government labs, universities, industry); (ii) What is the expected profile of the participants (speakers and audience)? (iii) How will the workshop be advertised? Having a clear target audience and plan to engage that group has proven to be critical in attracting high-quality submissions and organizing a successful workshop.
Format of the workshop: Provide a short overview of the format by indicating if the workshop (i) will have peer-reviewed papers in the proceedings, (ii) will it be half-day or full day? (iii) Will have a keynote talk (including a tentative list of potential speakers)? (iv) Will have a panel (including a topic and potential panelists)? (v) Will have external (e.g., NSF) support for student participants? For IPDPS 2026, because the workshops will be held on two contiguous days, organizers can request their preference in holding their workshops on either of the two days, or both days, depending on the length of the workshop program. Please note that all registered workshop attendees will have access to all the workshops, as well as any main conference events held on those days (e.g., panels, industry forums).
Timeline of activities: Provide a concise timeline of the main activities that will be conducted by the workshop team, identifying the people who will be conducting individual activities, from the time workshop acceptance notification is received to the day of the workshop at IPDPS. This timeline needs to include (but not limited to) milestones such as identification of the program chair, website launch, release of call for papers, program committee invitations, submission deadline, and notifications. For planning purposes, please use a camera-ready deadline of March 6, 2026, for all accepted workshop papers.
REGISTRATION AND IN-PERSON REQUIREMENT
IPDPS policy is that all workshop attendees, including organizers, are expected to register to attend the workshops. Registration information will be made available closer to the conference dates on the IPDPS website. (Each workshop is eligible for one complimentary registration reserved for a keynote speaker. This cannot be used by workshop organizers or by authors who need to have their paper registered.) Furthermore, all workshops will be held in-person. Proposals should acknowledge a commitment to adhere to these registration and in-person requirements.
IPDPS 2026 PROPOSALS FOR WORKSHOP RENEWALS
IPDPS Workshops from the preceding year(s) should apply for renewal. Only those workshops that were conducted as part of IPDPS 2025 will be considered for renewal. Renewal proposals must provide a detailed assessment of the past five years of workshops, including that of 2025, and include submission and acceptance statistics, number of attendees in prior years, identify elements that succeeded versus aspects that need significant improvement, and propose a plan to strengthen the workshop program. Renewal proposers should refer to the “Format of the workshop,” “Timeline of activities”, and “Registration and in-person requirement” sections above.
Only workshop proposals that address these in detail and provide a credible plan for ensuring a high-quality program will be renewed. The chairs will pay close attention to the acceptance statistics and the number of attendees in making decisions. In some cases, where there may be redundancy across workshops, the workshop chairs may suggest consolidation across teams. It is therefore important for renewal workshop organizers to be at least familiar with recent workshops that were offered at IPDPS (available from the IPDPS conference archive webpage). For more information, please contact the workshop chairs at workshops@ipdps.org. Any workshop run prior to (but not part of) IPDPS 2025 will not be considered as a renewal and instead should apply as a “new” workshop.
WHAT/WHERE TO SUBMIT
Here is the submission link for submitting proposals. Submitted proposals may not exceed three (3) single-spaced double-column pages using 10-point size font on 8.5x11-inch pages (IEEE conference style), including figures, tables, and references.
REVIEW AND NOTIFICATION
All submitted proposals for both new and renewal requests will be reviewed by a workshop committee. The workshop chairs may communicate with the proposed workshop organizers for any additional clarifications. Notifications are expected to be mailed on September 30, 2025, so that workshop planning activities can begin right after.
